Learning and Development in the Orange Room
Our Orange Room teachers plan developmentally appropriate activities that support each child’s growth while encouraging independence, social connection, and early academic skills. Focus areas include:
Sensory Exploration
Three-year-olds continue to learn through tactile experiences. We offer engaging sensory activities—like water bins, themed sensory trays, and creative materials—that help children explore their world and strengthen problem-solving skills.
Language Development
Children are speaking more clearly and expanding their vocabulary rapidly. Teachers support language growth by modeling conversation, introducing new vocabulary, asking open-ended questions, and reading aloud daily. Children begin to tell stories, describe experiences, and express thoughts and feelings more effectively.
Fine Motor Development
At this stage, children gain greater control over their hand and finger movements. We support fine motor development through pre-writing activities, scissor use, stringing beads, coloring, and beginning to form letters and numbers.
Social-Emotional Development
Three-year-olds are learning to navigate friendships and emotional regulation. We help children identify and manage their feelings, follow classroom rules, take turns, and resolve conflicts with guidance. Teachers foster a sense of belonging and encourage cooperative play.
Early Academic Foundations
Through fun and structured activities, children begin identifying letters and sounds, recognizing their names, and practicing basic phonics. We also introduce early math concepts like counting, sorting, and patterning through games, songs, and hands-on materials.
Creative Expression and Movement
We incorporate music, dance, art, dramatic play, and physical activity throughout the day, giving children multiple outlets to express themselves, strengthen gross motor skills, and build a lifelong love of learning.

Goals:
By the end of their time in the Orange Room, your child will be well on their way to Pre-K readiness. They’ll demonstrate greater independence, express ideas clearly through words and begin to writing/drawing, engage in cooperative play, follow classroom routines, and show excitement for the new challenges ahead in our Pre-K program.
How We Achieve This:
Our teachers create engaging, age-appropriate lessons and activities that support each child’s growth across all developmental areas. They provide a balance of small group, large group, and individualized learning opportunities while working closely with Pre-K teachers to ensure a smooth and confident transition for every child.
