Learning and Development in the Yellow Room
Our Yellow Room teachers plan activities that support each child’s growth at their own pace, while encouraging independence and social connection. Key areas of development include:
Sensory Play
Two-year-olds love hands-on discovery! We provide fun, safe sensory activities that stimulate their curiosity and imagination. Whether it's water bins, playdough, or textured materials, children explore with all five senses.
Language Development
Children at this stage are expanding their vocabulary rapidly. Teachers model clear language, encourage children to use words to express wants and feelings, and build language through books, songs, and everyday conversations.
Fine Motor Development
As coordination improves, children are ready for more detailed hand tasks. Our activities support skills like feeding with utensils, stacking blocks, turning pages, coloring with crayons, and using child-safe scissors.
Social-Emotional Development
Two-year-olds are learning about emotions and relationships. We support them in recognizing and naming their feelings, beginning to share and take turns, and practicing routines that build confidence. Teachers help guide social interactions and reinforce positive behaviors.
Potty Training Support
Potty training is an exciting milestone that many children begin exploring during their time in the Yellow Room. Our teachers watch for signs of readiness—such as showing interest in the toilet, staying dry for longer periods, or expressing the need to go—and will communicate with you when your child shows these cues. We work closely with families to create a consistent potty training plan and support your child with patience, encouragement, and plenty of praise along the way.
We also incorporate Creative Exploration, Music & Movement, and Social Learning throughout the day to encourage a love of learning and self-expression.

Goals:
By the end of their time in the Yellow Room, your child will be well on their way to preschool readiness. They’ll become more independent, express more complex thoughts and emotions, participate in group routines, and be excited for the adventures of our Orange Room!

How We Achieve This:
Our teachers plan thoughtful lessons and activities tailored to each child’s developmental needs. They create opportunities for small and large group learning and coordinate with Orange Room teachers to ensure every child is prepared to take their next big step with confidence.
